Why Things Are As They Are

“Hear the word of the Lord, O children of Israel, for the Lord has a controversy with the inhabitants of the land. There is no truth or stedfast love, and no knowledge of God in the land. therefore, there is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed” (Hosea 4:1-2).

“Swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and committing adultery; people break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.” It reads like the front page of The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Reuters, Fox or Apple News.

The core problem is spiritual, of course: "There is no truth or love, and no knowledge of God in the land."

This is the glorious simplicity of the gospel. It cuts through layers of obfuscation, cliché, psychological and political blather to core issues. When we turn away from God we “break all bounds and bloodshed follows bloodshed.” That's why things are as they are.

Thus, there is no ultimate solution for America that does not spring first from repentance and faith. Period!
